Behind the scenes, we’ve delivered a series of backend optimizations that make ION faster, more stable, and easier to maintain. From improved indexing to streamlined query handling, these updates enhance the performance and scalability of core operations such as deletions, part kit updates, and procedural data management.
The proof is in the pudding, see how we’ve driven down requests that take longer than one second to respond to less than 1% of our total API request volume. This means less waiting and more doing:
Smoother tool scanning and navigation
Scan tools directly into step fields to quickly associate qualified and calibrated equipment. Navigation from the run execution page has also been enhanced, providing faster access and deeper visibility into specific tool serial numbers and their attributes.
Cleaner editing experience for Issues
We’ve improved the data saving UX in Issues to make it less disruptive. No more “unsaved changes”.
Step Level Trace for aBOM installations
Users clicking aBOM installation links are now taken directly to the exact run step where the installation occurred. This enhancement improves precision, increases traceability, and saves time when viewing aBOMs from any workflow.
Complete PO line duplication (Exclusive to the New ION)
Copying a purchase order line now includes all associated quality clauses and labels ensuring eliminating the need for manual edits.
Role-Based Procedure Approvals
The rollout of role-based procedure approvals, introduced in the previous changelog, is continuing across environments. This update standardizes approval workflows by allowing teams to assign approval responsibilities by role and define the minimum number of approvals required per role. New procedures created in ION will automatically use this system, while existing procedures will continue to follow their original approval settings. Currently live with just a few select customers. Learn more here.
Canceled Step Handling
The rollout of canceled step handling also remains in progress. This feature automatically removes canceled steps from the dependency graph, ensuring that downstream work continues smoothly. Successor steps are re-linked to the canceled step’s predecessors, keeping execution logic clean and uninterrupted.
Expect a go live by 11/17. Learn more about how this will simplify your workflow here.
(New) PO Line Position Update
The PO Line position field is transitioning from a hard column to a calculated column.
This change affects webhook payloads as the PO Line position will no longer be included in webhook data. While we’ve reviewed existing integrations for potential impacts, we strongly recommend that all teams verify their own integrations to ensure they do not depend on this field in webhook payloads. This is strictly a webhook-level change; PO Line position data remains accessible through standard queries and APIs.
This update will go live the week of 12/1/25.
