Standard Step Execution Improvements

Visibility on Run Updates

Runs interface now clearly shows whether standard steps will receive updates from the next released version. While the behavior has not changed, this gives personnel a clear indicator of expectations. Understand this improved visibility further by checking out our ION Manual entry on the topic!

Location Inheritance On Runs

Runs now always inherit the location from the latest released version of a linked standard step. If a standard step is revised after a run is cut and the step is eligible for that update (indicated by the linked icon), WIP will automatically move to the newly released location upon starting that step. Manual overrides after the step has started remain fully supported. This change brings location behavior in line with how updates to standard step content and attributes already work.

Performance Gains in High Volume Areas

Inventory & Run Query Performance Updated

We’ve continued to focus on the highest-volume areas of ION to optimize performance. Part inventory queries now execute significantly faster, improving the system’s most frequently used backend operation. Run retrieval has been streamlined by removing unnecessary property fetches. Step-related SQL queries have also been optimized to improve standard step overall responsiveness. In addition, run cancellations are now more reliable thanks to deadlock resolution. The result? A snappier run execution experience.

A New Kitting Experience

Kitting in the new ION saves you time and gives you the flexibility to split kits, kit parts based on the run steps where they’re used, and request parts that share characteristics specific to your organization. The result is more adaptable, efficient kitting workflows that get the right parts to the right places faster. Try it out in the new ION experience today!

Scheduled Downtime Notice

ION Actions Execution Logs & EKS Cluster Updates

The First Resonance team will be deploying significant platform improvements that require a brief, temporary service interruption. To minimize impact, this maintenance has been scheduled for December 7th, 2025 at 12:00 AM PST.

During this window, the platform will be unavailable for approximately 30 minutes.

Planned Rollouts

(New) BOM Importer The mBOM Fast Importer consistently manages draft versions based on the AlwaysCreateNewVersion setting. Depending on the configuration, the importer will either create a new draft or overwrite the existing one, ensuring accurate, up-to-date mBOM data during imports. A full explanation of this formalized behavior is available in the linked documentation. As a result of the fast mBOM importer being more predictable and performant, the “slow” importer will be deprecated by the end of 2025.

(Complete) Canceled Step Handling

This is rollout has been complete and customers are already saving ~2 minutes per dependency redline. Learn more about how this will simplify your workflow here.

(Continuing) Role-Based Procedure Approvals

The rollout of role-based procedure approvals continues across environments. New procedures now use the role-based system by default, while existing procedures retain their original approval settings. This feature is currently live with a small group of customers and is the default experience in the new ION Procedures module. Learn more here.
